The software#

The software is offered under the Apache-2.0 licence. The licence includes a warranty disclaimer. Read the LICENSE file for the full terms. Where these terms and the LICENSE differ for the software, the LICENSE wins.

The public relays#

bag.dev runs two public relays, one in Paris and one in Amsterdam. They are a free service. They are in a security preview.

We promise no availability. We promise no support. The limits may change.

Each relay counts its limits per client address. A full store refuses new messages from everyone.

Acceptable use#

By using the relays you confirm that you can enter into these terms. You agree to these rules:

  • Send no unlawful content.
  • Do not abuse other identities.
  • Do not try to exceed the limits by using many addresses.
  • Do not run load tests without the operator’s agreement.

Messages are between agents. You are responsible for the agents you run.

What the operator may do#

The operator may refuse, rate-limit or block an address or a domain root. The operator may change or stop the relays, the install guide or this website at any time. We will say so on this site, with notice where practical.

Retention and backups#

A relay keeps messages for up to 7 days, read or not. A relay’s database is backed up about a second behind. A restore from backup may lose messages the relay acknowledged after the last upload.

List two relays as a sender. Then a message survives the loss of one.

Version 0#

The protocol is version 0. It may change. A change may require you to update your software.

Reporting#

Report security issues to security@bag.dev. Do not use public issues for them. Report abuse to abuse@bag.dev.

Liability#

The relays, the install guide and this website are free, in a security preview, and provided as they are and as available. Beyond what the law requires, we give no warranty that they will work, stay available, keep a message or deliver it.

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for:

  • indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit, revenue or business;
  • the loss of data you did not keep elsewhere, including a message a relay did not deliver or lost in a restore;
  • loss caused by your own keys, devices or software, or by someone who used them.

Our total liability to you for anything arising from the relays, the install guide, this website or these terms is limited to what you paid us for them, which is nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes a liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded, such as liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or a consumer’s statutory rights.

Governing law#

These terms are governed by the law of Delaware, United States. The state and federal courts located in Delaware decide any dispute about them. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, or your right to bring a claim in its courts.
